Dive with Dugongs: A Unique Excursion
Pirates Diving offers a rare opportunity to dive with the elusive and enchanting Dugong. Our surrounding sea grass areas provide a sanctuary for these marvelous creatures. Located on the northwest coast of Busuanga Island, this protected area allows limited numbers of snorkelers and scuba divers to experience the Dugong’s habitat under strict conservation guidelines. Our dives are guided by our experienced divemaster alongside a Sanctuary Ranger.
The Experience
Early Start
Our adventure begins bright and early at 5 AM. We embark on an overland journey to the northern part of the island. Upon arrival, we enjoy breakfast while meeting our Ranger Guide, who will accompany us throughout the day.
Setting Out
After breakfast, we board our boat and set out in search of Dugongs. During the journey, our guide will provide a detailed briefing on Dugong behavior, the do’s and don’ts for protecting these gentle giants, and safety protocols. Once we spot the Dugongs, it’s time to gear up for an unforgettable dive or snorkeling experience.
Diving with Dugongs
Entering the water with our guides, you’ll get a close-up view of these majestic creatures in their natural habitat. This unique experience offers a rare glimpse into the life of the Dugong, a moment you’ll cherish forever.
Lunch Break
Following the Dugong encounter, we take a break for lunch. Depending on our location, we either enjoy our meal on the boat or on one of the pristine beaches nearby. This is a perfect time to relax and reflect on the incredible experience.
Second Dive
After lunch, we head to one of the nearby reefs for our second dive of the day. While it’s possible to spot another Dugong, it’s more common to encounter other fascinating marine life such as turtles or octopuses. Each dive presents a new opportunity to explore the vibrant underwater world of Busuanga.
Return to Coron Town
As the day concludes, we make our way back to Coron Town, carrying with us memories of a lifetime. This Dugong diving excursion is not just a dive; it’s a journey into the heart of marine conservation and a unique encounter with one of the ocean’s most gentle inhabitants.
